The problem

Medical Reviews International (MedRev) has been using a system operated in the US, and this solution continues to serve them well to this day. However, their European clients have made it a clear requirement that medical data must remain within Europe, which is also critical in terms of compliance with data protection regulations, particularly the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This requirement posed a significant challenge for MedRev, as their existing system did not meet this criterion, making it necessary to develop a new portal operated in Europe. It was particularly important for MedRev that the new system not only comply with data protection regulations, but also retain or further develop the functionality of the existing US system. The challenge was therefore not only to create a new infrastructure, but also to integrate the new system into existing workflows and business models, while ensuring data security and service continuity.

The essence of the solution

In this situation, MedRev turned to Gloster-P92 Kft. for help in developing a custom portal hosted in Europe that complies with European data protection regulations and supports the company’s growing European customer base. The new system had to ensure a high level of data security, flexible scalability, and ease of use so that MedRev could continue to operate as one of the market’s leading providers in the field of healthcare needs assessment.

The solution developed for Medical Reviews International (MedRev) was a medical second opinion portal running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-based infrastructure. The AWS platform was chosen because it offers a flexible, scalable, and reliable solution that can handle the data protection and operational requirements of MedRev's European customers.

The portal is backed by an encrypted Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database, which ensures the protection and integrity of sensitive medical data. The separate encryption of the data stored in the database was a key element of the project, as the secure handling of medical data and compliance with data protection regulations were fundamental requirements in the European market.

Thanks to AWS’s cloud-based solution, MedRev was able to create a portal that is not only secure and compliant with data protection regulations but also ensures high availability and quick access to medical second opinions. The portal enables medical experts to work quickly and efficiently, thereby improving the quality of service and the efficiency of patient care.

Throughout the project, Gloster-P92 also paid special attention to the user experience (UX) to ensure that the portal would be intuitive and easy to use for both medical experts and clients. During development, they consulted regularly with the MedRev team to ensure that the portal would perfectly align with their specific needs and workflows.

As a result of the project, MedRev now has a platform that provides excellent service not only to American customers but also to European customers, while fully complying with data protection regulations and ensuring business continuity.

The project doesn’t stop at a successful launch; the team at Gloster-P92 is currently working continuously on further developing and supporting the portal. Their development roadmap already includes the next 2–3 major version updates, which are designed to ensure that the portal better meets the evolving needs of customers and takes advantage of the latest technological innovations.

These updates include further refinements to the user interface, expanded integration capabilities, and the introduction of new features that better support MedRev’s goals: reducing costs, improving the quality of services, and curbing the overuse of medical services. The roadmap ensures that the portal will continue to evolve and adapt to the rapidly changing healthcare market.
